Paul Ryan to meet Donald Trump as Republicans try to heal differences

Trump emerged as the last man standing in the Republican presidential race with a vow to disrupt the old order in Republican Party politics but is finding that in some respects, he needs the old order.

“At the end of the day, Republicans should do some soul searching about how they turn their party into the party of Donald Trump”.

Her campaign released an advertisement mocking Trump’s claim that he will unify the Republican Party, airing a collection of video clips showing his former presidential rivals and other prominent Republicans denouncing him in withering terms.

“It’s like the old saying, ‘Quitters never win, but they still beat John Kasich, ‘” Colbert said with a smirk.

“The thing that matters most are the millions of people that have come out to vote for me and give me a landslide victory in nearly every state”, Trump said moments after Ryan, the nation’s highest-ranking Republican officeholder, announced their planned meeting.

Another Republican donor, David Beightol, a Washington lobbyist who raised money this year for the presidential bid of former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, said he was leaning toward voting for Trump because he could not support Clinton.

Ryan himself said in his initial comments on CNN that he hopes to be able to come around to supporting Trump.

Ryan said that the meeting would occur next Thursday and that Trump also would meet with other House GOP leaders.

On “Fox and Friends” Friday morning, however, Trump said Democrats were not an option.

He has fewer delegates than Trump, Cruz and even Senator Marco Rubio, who ended his campaign back in March. Graham also said he would support other Republicans who want his help, in SC and across the country, except for Trump.

Yet Trump’s reaction on Friday made it unclear what impact Ryan could have on the bombastic billionaire.

“There are many opportunities for him to show, not just through the tone of what he says but through actual policy changes, ‘I am different, I have a different approach and I want to get things done, ‘” Pepper said.

“I mean he talks about unity but what is this about unity?” he said.

But Trump continued to rack up dominating wins in the Northeast; states that many expected Kasich to do well in.

Priebus says that he’s comfortable with Trump as the nominee as he has worked with him extensively behind the scenes, but he does say he believes Trump will soften his tone and pivot to general election mode.

In New Hampshire-where Trump preformed strong in the GOP primary-incumbent Sen.

Trump has not yet ruled out accepting public financing for his general-election effort.

Representative Raul Labrador, a Cruz backer and conservative leader from Idaho, told a radio station that he saw Trump as favoring the political “establishment” even though he has run as an outsider. “Hmm… That’s big. I didn’t think that was going to happen”, the real estate mogul was quoted as saying.

“This is scary. Trump is unsafe for Arizona families”, she said in an email to supporters that added, “This is our chance to defeat McCain”. Bush, who dropped out of the race in February, has said that he does not plan to vote for Trump.

“He’s constantly out there talking about his agenda”, Zwick said of Ryan, adding: “Many people aren’t sure what the Trump agenda is yet”.

“If they’re not going to support the people that the Republicans nominated, then they need to get out of the Republican Party and admit that they’re no longer Republican, that they’re something else”.
