Paul Ryan: Trump Needs to ‘Clean Up’ His Tweets

The Trump campaign has maintained that the image was not racially-motivated, asserting that the six-point star was meant to represent a sheriff’s badge. The image, which Trump later took down, showed the Democratic presidential candidate’s face next to a Star of David that read, “most corrupt candidate ever”.

But Mr Trump said the media is “dishonest” for comparing it to the Star of David, a symbol of Judaism.

When Trump hedged on denouncing support from white supremacists, Ryan denounced the candidate’s comments – but said he’ll support his party’s presidential nominee anyway. Both men have towering egos, are rank opportunists, and lie almost as often as they open their mouths, raising an interesting if terrifying image of the two men trying to co-exist during a Trump administration.

The Trump campaign didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Meanwhile, the Trump campaign has spent nothing so far on advertising for the general election.

The Trump campaign refused to answer repeated questions over the weekend about where the campaign found the image or whether any of its staffers frequented the fringe message board or other sites that peddle in anti-Semitic and white supremacist views.
