Pauline Hanson squirms over Dastyari’s halal invite

Former attorney-general George Brandis has reached out to Ms Hanson on behalf of the Liberal National Party, but the One Nation leader is yet to get a call from Malcolm Turnbull or Bill Shorten for support in what could be a hung parliament.

Pauline Hanson was all smiles as she voted at Jamboree Heights on Saturday.

After the interview, Wilkinson insisted she said “lessons”, not “listen”. “We will be the opposition to her in the Senate, taking it right up to her and letting her know that we would rather be a country that doesn’t prey on people’s fears and anxieties but appeals to their better nature”.

The One Nation Party leader says she’s yet to speak to Senator Brandis, but will listen to what he has to say.

Celebration quickly turned to condemnation as the One Nation Party boss turned on the Channel Nine personality.

As counting was due to resume today, Ms Hanson, who caused a storm in Australia and overseas over her attacks on Asian immigration as an MP in the Nineties, was preparing to make a return to parliament 20 years after she was first elected. “I’m not interested in it. I don’t believe in halal certification”.

Sam Dastyari’s offer of a “Halal snack pack” fell flat with the One Nation senator.

Senator Lambie, who could bring along another candidate with her in the upper house, says Ms Hanson was the last person on her mind at the moment.

‘I hear the comments that she directs at people of Islamic faith, I hear the same sort of slurs that were directed at families like mine a generation ago, ‘ the son of Italian migrants told ABC radio.

In Hong Kong, the Australian Chinese Association asked then prime minister John Howard to take “aggressive steps” to counter the damage being done to Australia’s image in Asia.

Given how close the counting has been, Hanson says she has no problems working with any parties.

The party is also in the running for Senate seats in New South Wales, Western Australia and Victoria.

“I remember coming out of prison and saying I’d have rocks in my head to actually go back and do it again”, she said.
