Pavelski, Hertl lead Sharks over Canucks 4-1
The Sharks regrouped and scored four unanswered third-period goals to notch a 4-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday.

The Canucks coughed up another third-period lead. We have, of course, seen this movie before. It also was his ninth point (2 goals, 7 assists) in his last seven games. He’s the 60th National Hockey League player to reach that total and just the fifth Swede. “We can do it for most parts of the game”. “In the end we tried all we had, but it’s not good enough”.
The game followed a familiar if not frustrating script for the Canucks (24-25-12), who saw a two-game win streak snapped. “It’s a disappointing feeling”.
Vancouver has yet to win three consecutive games this season. He took a pass from Vlasic in the corner, swooped around Vancouver defenseman Luca Sbisa and beat Canuck goaltender Ryan Miller with a backhand to the stick side. “We had a chance to do that and we didn’t”.
San Jose scored two goals early in the third to erase a 1-0 Vancouver lead.
San Jose then grabbed the lead at 6:49 when Hertl tipped Braun’s point shot for his 15th.
Patrick Marleau added an insurance goal with San Jose on a two-man advantage, and then Justin Braun scored into the empty-net with Miller off for the extra attacker.
“That shouldn’t happen”, Sedin said. The Sharks went 0 for 2 on the power play in the first two periods.
“Credit Vancouver. I thought they played a really good first 40 minutes”. It was our best effort defensively by far. They bottled us up.
“I don’t know”, he said.
“We didn’t have a lot of energy, we weren’t creating much”, Sharks coach Peter DeBoer said. “If we get (this) one we can worry about the next”. He retired as a Florida Panther after the 2013-14 season. “We didn’t want to give them any life in the standings”.
In a scheduling quirk, Sunday’s game was the first between the Sharks and Canucks this season. “We lost a lot of battles, didn’t do a lot of little things right”.
The Sharks won’t have long to dwell on this one as they welcome the Montreal Canadiens to SAP Center tomorrow night. I thought we played a decent game. “It’s odd to go through this, but we have to be professionals”. We were in a tough spot … The Sharks will likely turn to Martin Jones in this one though I wouldn’t be surprised to see newly acquired James Reimer get his first start with his new team against the Canucks on the road. That would be easy to say.
“If you have a lead, teams are hungry”, said Canucks head coach Willie Desjardins.
Former Canucks defencemen Ed Jovanovski and Sami Salo took part in a ceremonial faceoff before the game … Bartkowski was a late scratch with the flu … San Jose goalie Martin Jones made 23 saves.

Jones, making his eighth straight start, returned to his hometown and played in the building in which his father, Harvey, is an executive as the Canucks’ vice president of construction. The 31-year-old has 27 goals and 58 points in 61 games this season.
