We still don’t have any pricing or availability for the StarVR, but that will more than likely be in the cards down the road.
Starbreeze made a sizeable splash at E3 last summer when the unveiled StarVR, their 210 degree, high resolution VR headset born from project InfinitEye.
“Since our launch in June 2015, we have had an fantastic start with StarVR”, Bo Andersson Klint, CEO of Starbreeze, said in a statement. “Starbreeze and Acer share the same goal of delivering best-in-class VR applications, and we look forward to unlocking new VR possibilities together with this partnership”.
The StarVR could bring significant change to the VR market is Acer plays its cards right but we still do not have any information regarding the price or the actual availability date for the StarVR headset. He claims to be excited for what the future holds for the first major collaboration they set out to achieve.
“In reference to Acer’s StarVR-related joint venture with Starbreeze, Acer CEO Jason Chen said that the company will “[devote] R&D resources across multiple aspects of the VR ecosystem”. The company recently announced it hopes to join forces with Sweden-based game maker Starbreeze (creator of the Payday series) to produce the latter’s StarVR virtual reality headset.

What sets StarVR apart from the competition is its displays. But the Swedish company is relatively small, and with just $10 million in cash at the end of 2015 it doesn’t have the deep pockets its rivals enjoy to cover the high cost of hardware development, and then have enough funds to market and sell the device. Plus, Acer has also dabbled in the gaming laptop territory; hence it knows the market well. The headset received attention thanks to a dedicated VR experience based on their Walking Dead franchise.
