Payton and Loomis reflect on decision to cut Galette

A fifth-year veteran out of Stillman, the 6-foot-2, 258-pound Galette boasts great talent, having recorded a total of 22 sacks in 2013 and 2014 – his first two seasons as a starter.

Loomis also expressed genuine excitement for the upcoming season. “Yeah, a lot of production we’re going to miss that”, Loomis said.

The hits keep on coming for former New Orleans Saints outside linebacker Junior Galette who can’t seem to shake controversy.

About three weeks before Junior Galette was released by the Saints on Friday, the embattled pass-rusher was busted for allegedly driving with an expired license and no brake tag on his vehicle. “Obviously, we’d prefer – and I think it’d be in his best interest to not to let that emotion come out publicly, but it is what it is”.

“I think we always have to keep in mind that it’s emotional for a player when he’s told that he’s not wanted anymore – I understand the emotion”, Loomis said. “How are we going to address the changes that happen on that team?’ Each year is different and yet its the same in that you always have question marks”, Loomis said.

Another anvil hanging over Galette, as well as his potential status with other teams, is that there is no official word on if he’ll face a suspension or not for either the domestic case he was involved in or the infamous video. The NFL is also reviewing that.

The Saints begin practicing Thursday at the Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.

When Sean Payton became the Saints head coach in 2006, he quickly set a foundation for future success through free agency and the team’s overall approach. “I can’t be any more clear than that”.

Galette was thought to likely be a sought after candidate on the free agent market following his release, but teams are probably putting the phone down as more layers of the onion are revealed. “We were pulling for him as much as anything because he does have a presence and he’s so well respected”. Bunkley left on good terms, said Payton who also didn’t rule out bringing back Bunkley when he is fully recovered from a quadriceps injury. Third-year man John Jenkins and 34-year-old Kevin Williams may be candidates to replace him. “It’ll be up to us to get the right combination on the field”. They return to their New Orleans-area headquarters on August 21.
