PDP leader Tariq Hameed Karra quits
PDP hit out at its MP Tariq Hameed Karra, who resigned from the party as well as Lok Sabha on Thursday, saying he was the one who had advocated an alliance with the BJP, besides proposing the name of Mehbooba Mufti as the Chief Minister.

“I was feeling suffocated”.
Stating that he had warned the party time and again about “repercussions and risky consequences” of shaking hands with the BJP, Karra blamed the PDP-BJP alliance for the current unrest in the Valley saying the “seeds of “seeds of deceit, discontent and betrayal got sown in hearts and minds of the people the day the alliance came into being”.
“Compared to the happenings of 2008 and 2010 the trouble this time has remained confined only to Kashmir and rest of the state with community composition remained peaceful. It is unfortunate that Karra has chosen to label unfounded allegations despite the fact that he strongly advocated alliance with BJP”, said Nizam-ud-din Bhat, general secretary of PDP. “As a mark of protest on moral grounds against the brutal policies of BJP at centre and state government sell out and surrender before them I have made a decision to disassociate myself from Primary membership of PDP and membership of parliament to which I was elected from Srinagar parliamentary constituency”, Karra said.
The Lok Sabha member from Sringar said PDP was floated in 1999 to safeguard lives, property, honour, dignity, self respect and political aspirations of the people. “The PDP is no more the buffer as it claimed once”, said Mr. Karra.
“His hand twisting attitude and imperialistic methods towards Kashmir issue and issues of Kashmir added fuel to the fire. If he were bound by principles, he should have waited for the situation in Kashmir to normalise before resigning”, the government spokesman said. “His (Modi) criminal silence on. sensitive and contentious issues concerning J&K, even during the present uprising, have been further angering people. His firm belief that there will be no J&K issue, minus Pakistan, is self-defeating and not a smart move even in favor of India”, Karra said.
