Stuenkel also said the department is investigating what specifically stopped the bullet that struck the trooper.

The Nevada Highway Patrol’s Southern Command tweeted out a photo of the badge, which just barely blocked the bullet’s trajectory.

The incident began as a traffic stop shortly after midnight on Boulder Highway near USA 95.

In Las Vegas, a Nevada State Trooper was conducting a traffic stop when the suspect began to flee the vehicle.

Stuenkel said she didn’t know the caliber of the bullet fired at the trooper, how many shots the officer fired, who fired first, or whether a weapon was recovered. During a foot pursuit, gunfire broke out and the trooper was struck in the chest. “Gunfire was exchanged and NHP is extremely grateful that the Trooper was uninjured and got to go home to his family”.
