Baillie clarified later that police officers would be doing the sweeps, but school staff might be on site during the searches to help police identify anything that might be unusual or out of place.

RCMP spokesman Sgt. Kevin Baillie explained to have received a fax on Wednesday morning that said a bomb would go off in a school sometime later, however it did not specify the school or the time.

Alvarado declined to comment on what was specifically written in the threat, but he did confirm it included a claim involving an explosive device left at the high school.

The RCMP said they don’t believe this threat is credible either, and schools will reopen once they are confirmed to be safe. Police have responded and will determine when it is safe for staff and students to re-enter the building.

“As a parent I know how worrisome this type of situation can be”.

Middle school students were evacuated around 11:39 a.m., the district said in a statement. “But we have plans and procedures and I think we followed them”.

Winnipeg police won’t say exactly what the threat included. He said he expects all students to return to classes on Thursday. It wasn’t immediately clear which one was involved or if it was evacuated.
