Pelicans add depth at center after pre-season injuries
With the injuries to starting center Omer Asik and his primary backup Alexis Ajinca that happened this week the New Orleans Pelicans were searching for another player who could play center to bring into camp for at least the duration of the preseason. Suddenly a front court rotation that looked crowded, especially if Anthony Davis chipped in a couple minutes as a small ball center, is practically barren.

New Orleans Pelicans center Jerome Jordan participated in his first practice on Sunday after signing a non-guaranteed contract earlier in the day. Smith was a reserve for the Houston Rockets from 2011-14 before suiting up (briefly) with the Dallas Mavericks last season.
Asik averaged 7.3 points and 9.8 rebounds in 26.1 minutes per game previous year and is a double-double threat every time he steps on the floor. There are lingering health issues and legitimate concerns about his proclivity to foul. Jordan has also spend time in the National Basketball Association Development League with the Los Angeles D-Fenders, Reno Bighorns and Erie BayHawks.

Omer Asik was ruled out for three weeks with a calf strain but the New Orleans Pelicans are hopeful he will be back for their season opening game.
