Pelicans adding former Knicks guard Galloway

The New Orleans Pelicans continue to bolster their backcourt with the addition of former New York Knicks guard Langston Galloway in free agency.

A restricted free agent to start this offseason, he became available when the Knicks rescinded their initial qualifying offer, reportedly to free up money to sign guard Brandon Jennings. And considering Galloway evolved as an off-ball scorer to the tune of a 47.5 percent conversion rate on corner threes last season, he should be able to find success whether he’s working with or without the rock in his hands as he heads back to the Big Easy. Galloway offers a little stability in the scoring department, where New Orleans lacked a lot of depth previous year.

In a disastrous 2014-15 season for the Knicks, Galloway made his way onto the roster and then played his way into starting 41 of his 45 games.

“I would like to thank the New York Knicks organization, my teammates and fans for all of your support these past two years”, Galloway tweeted.

The Knicks hope a serviceable veteran or two slips through the cracks somewhere for them.

He averaged 7.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in 24.8 minutes of playing time per night for Derek Fishes and Kurt Rambis last season, lower than what he produced when incoming sophomore point guard was still not around Jerian Grant. He finished the season with per-game averages of 2.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds.

Players officially can sign contracts Thursday, and teams can finally announce those deals.
