Pellegrini becomes Hebei China Fortune coach

But it’s not just players who are making their way east – Premier League winning manager Manuel Pellegrini has decided to make the move to China just months after leaving Manchester City.

Manuel Pellegrini has been confirmed as coach of Hebei China Fortune in the CSL.

Pellegrini’s final season in Manchester was blighted by speculation surrounding his future and the eventual announcement of Pep Guardiola as his successor.

Their squad includes Argentina’s Ezequiel Lavezzi, who moved from Paris Saint-Germain earlier this year, former Arsenal forward Gervinho and ex-Chelsea winger Gael Kakuta.

The club were reportedly keen to land Roberto Mancini as their first choice, but the Italian seemingly turned down the offer.

Pellegrini’s new side now sit in fifth position in the CSL, five points off the AFC Champions League places with seven games to go.

Pellegrini joins many other high profile coaches who are now working in China, with former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson and ex-Brazil boss Luis Felipe Scolari also both involved in the Chinese Super League.
