Pellegrini cools Aguero injury fears

While their league form hasn’t been terrific, they’ve rewarded themselves with a good performance against Sheffield Wednesday to enter the semi-finals of the Capital One Cup, thanks to goals from Ibrahim Afellay and Phil Bardsley.

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed that Sergio Aguero is still struggling with a heel injury, according to the Daily Mail.

The Chilean’s options will not increase for Tuesday’s trip to Borussia Monchengladbach either as neither Toure or Aguero will return while Fernando was forced off with a hamstring injury in this contest.

The Premier League side have only won two of their last six games in all competitions and are two points adrift of Juventus at the top of the standings. It was a hugely disappointing performance all round which emphasised the absence of several key players, while the defence was so often left for dead by the silky, astute football from their opponents, who played them off the park in such eyecatching fashion.

He said: “It will be the fifth game we play in 14 days, and for the last two we had less than 72 hours to recover”.

Pellegrini added: “If you talk about that game of course you must be concerned not only how we defend but how we attack”.

“We want to do well in the Champions League and I have always defended us from what people say, I don’t care what people say about Manchester City”, said Hart. Fabian Johnson’s Gladbach plays to hold onto 3rd-place in Group D. Since they can’t advance to the knockout round of the Champions League, 3rd means moving to the knockout round of the Europa League.

Hughes pointed to his team’s “good energy in midfield” from Geoff Cameron and Ibrahim Afellay and the quality of Bojan, Xherdan Shaqiri and Arnautovic, who combined superbly in their first game as front three.

Manchester City’s form in the Premier League has been less than impressive over the past six games, with Pellegrini’s side only recording victories on two occasions and both at home.

“The whole season there are a lot of games we played without our important players”. Many have started comparing him to Tevez, but Juventus teammate Leonardo Bonucci warned against heaping too much expectation on the youngster’s shoulders. The pair combined once again 8 minutes later to double Stoke’s lead and condemn City to their 2nd away defeat of the season. After being suspended for Saturday’s match against Stoke City, it looks like Eliaquim Mangala will return to partner in defense with Nicolas Otamendi. “We don’t have too many players to rest”.
