Pellegrini slams Belgium over Kompany call-up

“For me, in the same way, when you don’t send a player to their national squad, you can not use in your club, in the other sense it must be the same way”, he added.

“In the global break he can use the players and he wanted to use”.

“If a player didn’t play the latest three games for your squad, they shouldn’t play for the national squad”.

Wilmots ignored that plea and Kompany featured for nearly an hour in Belgium’s Euro qualifier win over Israel on Tuesday night which elevated them to number one in the world rankings.

Pellegrini will make his own assessment of Kompany’s fitness before deciding whether to play him in the Bournemouth game, which he is careful to stress may not be the foregone conclusion the league table might suggest.

“But these are the rules”.

Kompany, who recently missed time with a hamstring injury, may not start Saturday against Bournemouth, manager Manuel Pellegrini intimated Friday.

“There is not a problem with him”. I think it was important for Vincent to work a complete week before he played and he couldn’t do it because he played for Belgium. “He couldn’t do it because he played for Belgium, so he had to recover here Wednesday and Thursday”. We’ll see how they improve in the next week.

Aguero will be replaced in the starting XI by Wilfred Bony, with the forward having recently admitted that the current phase as a player has been the worst in his career. At least Wilfried Bony is a ready made replacement for Agüero, even if he may not be at quite the level the Argentina striker reached in his last Premier League game when he demolished Newcastle United single-handed with five goals in 23 minutes.

Pellegrini had warned before the global break that Kompany would not be fit to turn out for his country. Both are likely to be out for a fortnight.

The Chilean said: “I hope that we can win that game but I think the only way to win it is to be absolutely sure you play with 100 per cent of intensity”.

‘They have very good players and the players who won promotion last season.

“I play for my country and am proud to do it. There are no small games”.
