Pellegrini takes City spirit as a positive pointer in title chase
Nigerian youngster Kelechi Iheanacho and Ivory Coast superstars Yaya Toure and Wilfried Bony combined to send Manchester City to the top of the Premier League on Saturday with a 2-1 win over Swansea.

But City found a dramatic stoppage- time victor as Yaya Toure’s shot was deflected in off Kelechi Iheanacho.
The result means City move top of the Premier League at least until Sunday, while the Welsh side remain 15th.
“When they scored I thought this game would end a draw, but once again this team demonstrated its character to go and try and win the game”, Pellegrini told Sky Sports. Raheem Sterling was very impressive in their 4-2 win over Borussia Monchengladbach in the UEFA Champions league and will continue to create chances down the left wing.
“These are three very important points”.
Can Arsenal really challenge for and/or win the title? The Ivorian provided energy and drive throughout and it was his determination that brought about the victor. He rewarded his manager’s faith with a goal against his former club.
“To concede in the 90th minute, it’s obviously hard but luckily for us we scored the goal and that is the most important thing”.
Neat passing from Jack Cork and Gylfi Sigurdsson opened up City as early as the sixth minute, and though the final ball was intended for Andre Ayew, it turned into a better opportunity for Wayne Routledge, who effortlessly left Nicolas Otamendi behind, but was unable to beat Hart. “Yes, we are on a bad run, but we won’t be going to the Etihad just to make up the numbers and get the fixture out of the way while we wait for a new manager to come in”, Curtis said. The delight on their bench was obvious as Gomis appeared to have earned them a creditable draw but that joy soon turned to agony.
“And if we can do that, we’ve shown everyone today what a good team we still can be”. ‘But if so, we’d have to feel we can beat them.
“We are disappointed but we can look back with a little bit of pride in the way the team performed”.
“We were not 100 percent recovered [after Gladbach]”, he added.
Odion Ighalo claimed the game’s only goal in the fourth minute – his 10th of the campaign. The 1-0 home loss, though, leaves the north-east club still languishing in penultimate place on 12 points. Wes Hoolahan equalised for the struggling Canaries.
Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini believes Swansea may have acted prematurely in dismissing Garry Monk as manager.
It was cruel on Swansea, with Sigurdsson admitting the players were already hurting after losing a boss who many of them also played with. Toure shot hit Iheanacho’s back and the ball flew into the net to give City the 2-1 victory.

Pellegrini sounded only partially satisfied with the victory.
