“We have told our security forces to observe maximum restrains and they are doing so”. Within two-to-four days, an expert committee will submit report on pellet guns.
The Home Minister said that an alternative to pellet guns will be given very soon. “95 per cent people of the state don’t want violence, they want peace”. The issue has, however, been hijacked by 5% of people who believe in violence, ” a visibly upset Mehbooba said even as Singh tried to pacify her, constantly patting her on the knee.
While Mufti reasserted her commitment to resolve the crisis in the Valley, she warned that there will be casualties if people resorted to stone-pelting and attacking camps of security forces, PTI reported.
Singh said that he spoke to delegations from almost every political party and had seen nearly 300 people since the previous day. He then asked, “Who gives them permission to put stones in their hands?”
Srinagar, Aug 25 Kashmir Congress today welcomed Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s statement that an alternative to pellet guns would be found in a few days, saying the Centre should ensure the replacement is non-lethal. Referring to children protesting on the streets, Mufti said: “Did this child go out to buy toffee at an Army camp?” Many of those injured have been hit in the eyes with pellets, causing partial or complete blindness.
She further added, “People have come onto the roads”.
“The Centre is absolutely serious to restore normalcy in Kashmir as early as possible and we are taking steps in that direction”.
Mehbooba abruptly ended the press conference when a journalist said she had swapped roles and views with her predecessor Omar Abdullah on the protests. “People had genuine anger at that time (2010)”, she said. “A 15-year-old boy who attacked a police station, had he gone to buy milk?” she asked and stormed out of the press conference soon after. “Over 4,500 security personnel have been injured”, he added.
Singh will hold several rounds of talks with members of civil society and top politicians in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
However, Mehbooba was combative, saying, “What will they tell me?” “I appeal to the people of Kashmir to identify those who want to create such situation”, he said.

This is Singh’s second visit amid continued curfew and restrictions in many parts of the valley since Wani’s death. After the review meeting, the home minister had separate meetings with heads of para-military forces and state police chief for understanding their working conditions and also to enquire whether there was an operational requirement.
