Pence Accepts VP Nomination, Speaks At GOP Convention

Cruz defended himself a bit Thursday morning. Trump’s remarks about US obligations under North Atlantic Treaty Organisation to come to the aid of other members of the 28-nation alliance are in line with his views questioning the United States’ global role. They nearly pulled it off, but Mr. Ford was the president at the time and his forces used the power that went with his incumbency to narrowly win the crucial rules fight that year.

“We showed party unity to Ted Cruz last night”.

Ted Cruz went “all in” Wednesday as he addressed the Republican Convention delegates in Cleveland, laid out his vision and pointedly ignored the opportunity to endorse the candidacy of Donald Trump.

As a practical matter, the record-long acceptance address was a remix of Trump’s greatest hits – build the wall, start a trade war with China and destroy ISIS “quickly” (the ways and means of doing so, beyond his own boundless ego, remain mysterious).

Trump Organization staff writer Meredith McIver released a statement Wednesday apologizing for the mistake, saying she submitted her resignation to Donald Trump, but he refused to accept it. “It can be hard for us in the Bay Area to realize what people are experiencing across the country and see how there could be any appeal in Trump’s speech”. But he said Cruz “didn’t honour” the pledge that Republican primary candidates had made to support the eventual GOP nominee.

Trump spoke on many topics at Quicken Loans Arena, including illegal immigration, during his hour-plus speech.

Yet, Cruz then appeared to throw some shade at Trump supporters who booed him off stage last night. Trump allies were furious.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s take on the speech was less forgiving. Eric Trump, on CBS’ “This Morning”, called it “classless”.

There are others who think the RNC speech will just show Trump being Trump.

“You have nominated a man for president who never quits”, Pence said.

Trump joined Pence on stage, applauding his new partner and leaning in almost to give him a kiss on the cheek.

Keeping to that style may be the best thing Trump can do, noted Fox News columnist Zev Chafets.

Maybe it’s evidence of another media reality, which Trump the television programmer understands: even a series of bad episodes can be redeemed by a strong finale.

“Ronald Reagan would be ashamed”.

Mr Trump accused Mrs Clinton, his Democratic rival, of utterly lacking the good judgment to serve in the White House and as the military’s commander in chief.

But Cruz’s appearance left the arena unsettled for the night’s closing speakers. Stand, and speak, and vote your conscience, vote for candidates up and down the ticket who you trust to defend our freedom and to be faithful to the Constitution.

Many candidates have seen a bump in the polls following the party convention. The businessman has called the senator “Lyin’ Ted” and the senator branded Trump a “pathological liar” and “serial philanderer”.

Cruz told Trump in a phone conversation two days ago that he would not endorse him during his speech, according to Cruz aide Jason Johnson. That decision was sure to spark a new round of second guessing about the campaign’s management of the convention and preparedness for the bruising campaign against Clinton.

At a Republican primary debate in January, Cruz derisively said Trump “embodies NY values”.

Clinton is expected to steal the limelight on Friday or Saturday by announcing her vice presidential running mate.
