Pence Breaks with Trump to Support Paul Ryan
PORTLAND, Maine (AP) Donald Trump’s campaign chief acknowledged Thursday the GOP presidential nominee’s team is divided over whether to endorse House Speaker Paul Ryan, but promised Trump would work with the Republican speaker if elected.

Ryan faces a primary challenge from Paul Nehlen, a Wisconsin businessman who said at a news conference on Wednesday that the nine-term congressman has betrayed the GOP presidential nominee and does not support the issues that matter to his constituents.
Mike Pence is urging supporters in battleground Colorado to convince their neighbors to vote for Donald Trump.
“Three times he asked about the use of nuclear weapons…at one point he asked “if we have them, why can’t we use them”, Mr Scarborough said on MSNBC’s Morning Joe on Wednesday.
“I don’t care”, Trump said bluntly of Pence’s vote on “60 Minutes”. As of March 2016, PolitiFact found that only 9 percent of the statements Trump made were true or mostly true – meaning almost 100 percent of his statements were false.
As Republican loyalists continue to flee, Donald Trump has ignited new party tensions by refusing to endorse House Speaker Paul Ryan or Arizona Sen.
A day earlier, Sally Bradshaw, an architect of the Republican National Committee’s 2013 “Growth and Opportunity” report, said she’s leaving the GOP.
“He’s staying consistent with his character and he’s not changing who he is, but he’s also careful not to criticize his spouse”, said Murphy, who has known Pence for almost 30 years. But Ryan spokesman Zack Roday has previously said the campaign would not get in a “back-and-forth” with Nehlen and added that it had never sought Trump’s endorsement.
Trump on Wednesday reported raising $80 million in July for his campaign and the Republican Party, a significant improvement from past months.
Trump wrote on Twitter: “There is great unity in my campaign, perhaps greater than ever before”. Anxious Republicans, meanwhile, struggled to move attention from their own infighting to Democratic foe Hillary Clinton.
“The candidate is in control of his campaign”, campaign chairman Paul Manafort told the Fox News Network Wednesday afternoon, highlighting his inability to control the nominee.
Mr Trump’s always unruly campaign has been wracked by turmoil in recent days. Republican Donald Trump’s campaign declined the invitation.
His ongoing war of words with Khizr and Ghazala Khan – the parents of Capt Humayun Khan – has intensified rifts within the Republican Party.
Many Republican leaders, including Mr Ryan and Mr McCain, have criticised Trump’s subsequent attacks on the parents.
The RNC can’t force Trump out of the race – he would have to voluntarily drop out.
Mr Trump said he would advise his daughter to find another job if she were the victim of sexual harassment. Like Ryan, McCain endorsed Trump, but has also given a strong rebuke of the candidate’s comments about the Khan family.
Tons of data proving Trump’s business genius may exist in the ether, but he’s the only one who can access it. Until this data is released, Trump’s “excellent” business track record must remain an unknown.
Trump’s widespread appeal can not be denied, as well the electoral facts that made him the GOP nominee.
Trump invited more tension Tuesday when he told The Washington Post he’s not ready to endorse Ryan in next week’s Republican primary contest against Paul Nehlen, praising the underdog for running “a very good campaign”. Priebus has already been speaking with campaign chairman Paul Manafort and the billionaire’s children, who are said to agree that Trump needs to stop picking fights within his own party and back off his criticism of the family of a slain soldier.
“If we fail to protect our majority in Congress, we could be handing President Hillary Clinton a blank check”, Ryan said.

On Tuesday, Democratic President Barack Obama unleashed his strongest attack yet on Trump, calling him unfit for the presidency and asking Republican leaders why they continued to endorse him given their repeated criticisms of his actions. Polling in Wisconsin and nationwide shows he is still very popular.
