Pence brushes off question about GOP candidate endorsements

The woman, identified as Carson City native Catherine Byrne, whose son serves in the U.S. Air Force, was booed when she questioned Pence about Trump’s response to the parents of fallen Capt. Humayun Khan, said Politico.

During a Q&A segment on Monday, Governor and Vice Presidential candidate Mike Pence was asked by a military mom about Trump’s apparent disrespect for the armed forces. Byrne asked Pence, prompting boos from the crowd.

Pence, who has a son in the Marines, then praised the woman’s son for serving.

As Pence called for quiet he said of Byrne, “that’s what freedom looks like”.

Pence, whose father was a combat veteran, thanked Byrne for the question. But he also spent a fair amount of time addressing the controversy over recent remarks by Donald Trump disparaging the Muslim-American family of a USA soldier, Capt. Humayun Khan, who was killed in Iraq. We truly do. The story of Capt. Khan is an incredibly empowering story. There is “no one more devoted to the veterans in this country”.

This isn’t the first time Pence has come to Trump’s defense since he joined the campaign in July.

“I can not emphasize enough how deeply I disagree with Mr. Trump’s statement”.

And Senator Mark Kirk of IL, who in June withdrew his endorsement of Trump, says: “To Mr. Trump, I would simply say hands off Gold Star families”.

“I thought he was respectful to me as an individual, but basically that’s all I got out of that”, she said late Monday.

Pence briefly skimmed over immigration issues, quickly stating that Trump will “build a wall to ensure our nation’s safety”.

Trump has faced criticism from both Republicans and Democrats for his statements about the Khans, who appeared at the Democratic National Convention to speak out against Trump.

“That’s what freedom looks like and that’s what freedom sounds like”, he said.

Pence also said electing Hillary Clinton, the Democratic presidential nominee, would be akin to voting in Obama for a third term in office.

“I’m not gonna tell anybody what they should say”, she said.

“I’ve never been there with John McCain because I’ve always felt that he should have done a much better job for the vets”, Trump told the Washington Post.

“I think this is something that was blown hugely out of proportion”, Eric Trump responded.
