Pence declines to call former KKK leader ‘deplorable’

His response to Hillary’s recent remarks was excellent.

“No, I’m not in the name-calling business”, Pence responded. But Pence reiterated that the campaign denounces Duke’s support of the GOP ticket.

Pence also initiated the discussion of security for law enforcement workers by pledging Trump’s dedication to the respect and perseverance of those in the field, stating that Trump’s presidency would see the end of any laws or practices endangering them.

Pence repeated his denouncement of Duke on Fox News later Monday, and dismissed the criticism for his refusal to call Duke deplorable.

“For her to rattle off this litany of pejoratives was just really shocking”, Pence continued.

Pressed as to why Trump would not release topline information about previous returns now – which would not interfere with the audit process – Pence said Trump would release his returns “in totality” and “not parse them out piece by piece”.

“The truth is that the Republican Party in Louisiana – I received the vast majority of Republican votes for United States Senator before and for governor before that in my state”, Duke said. I was in the Republican caucus in the legislature.

But when asked whether he would agree that Duke is “deplorable”, Pence demurred: “I’m not in the name-calling business”. “And I am very, very proud of their charitable record”. Robert Byrd, who was in the Klan in the 1940s (Byrd publicly renounced his past involvement, and upon his death, the NAACP issued a statement praising him).

Pence added that he and Trump “know what they’re dealing with” with Putin, describing the leader harshly as a former KGB agent and authoritarian who has repressed the media, been associated with violence in his country and the invasions of Ukraine and Crimea.
