Pence doubles down on call for Clinton to end foundation

“Over the last several months, members of the Foundation’s senior leadership, Chelsea, and I have evaluated how the Foundation should operate if Hillary is elected”, the former president wrote.

The ex-president said in the event of another Clinton presidency, the foundation’s work, funding and his role in it would raise questions that would need to be resolved “in a way that keeps the good work going while eliminating legitimate concerns about potential conflicts of interest”.

Trump released a statement Monday morning calling for the Clintons to “shut down” the Clinton Foundation immediately.

The foundation has repeatedly denied any corruption and has painted themselves as much more transparent than other foundations.

The former president outlined the Clinton Foundation’s accomplishments and planned shift in scope in an email to about 500,000 supporters.

Trump has thrown a series of barbs at Clinton, describing her as “crooked” and making opaque suggestions lately that she has unspecified health problems. He urged Trump to “come clean” with the electorate about the business mogul’s “complex network of for-profit businesses” that are in debt to big banks, the Bank of China and business groups with ties to Russian Federation.

The foundation has raised money in the years since Bill Clinton left the White House and has launched a host of charitable efforts targeting climate change, improving quality of life for women and girls in developing countries and fighting health crises.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump urged for the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate Hillary Clinton’s involvement with the Clinton Foundation during her tenure as USA secretary of state during a rally in Akron, Ohio, on Monday.

In the new emails, Clinton Foundation executive Doug Band asks Clinton’s top aide, Huma Abedin, to arrange a meeting between Clinton and the Crown Prince Salman of Bahrain, whom he called “our friend”.

However, speaking on MSNBC last week, top Trump spokeswoman Katrina Pierson alleged that Clinton has a disorder called dysphasia, a condition brought on by brain trauma that erodes a person’s ability to speak or comprehend language.

Bill Clinton announced last week that the foundation will no longer accept contributions from foreign governments and corporations if his wife, the Democratic presidential nominee, is elected.

Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said Monday that the new exchange, and others, showed donors buying access to the secretary of state through the foundation.

“No matter how this group tries to mischaracterize these documents, the fact remains that Hillary Clinton never took action as Secretary of State because of donations to the Clinton Foundation”, said Clinton spokesman Josh Schwerin.

The remarks followed the release of a Monmouth University poll that found Mr. Trump is trailing Mrs. Clinton by a 39 to 43 percent margin among likely voters in Ohio.
