Pence mum on North Korea’s invitation to South
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has invited the South’s president Moon Jae-in for a meeting in the North.

The Blue House is known for being extra creative with the menu when they host top guests.
The protestors also directed their ire toward South Korean president Moon Jae-in, who has taken a softer stance toward North Korea than previous leaders.
Kim Yo Jong earlier on Friday became the first member of North Korea’s ruling family to visit the South since the end of the 1950-53 Korean War. Pence said he didn’t want to allow North Korea to “hijack” the games, and announced new sanctions to be unveiled against Pyongyang soon.
“An early resumption of dialogue between the United States and the North is needed also for the development of the South-North Korean relationship”, Moon said through a spokesperson. US Vice President Mike Pence, sitting a few seats away in the same Opening Ceremony VIP booth, looked stony faced as the scene unfolded. Pence is pushing South Korea to adopt a more hawkish stance toward the North and warning against North Korean “propaganda” efforts at the games.
“Yesterday’s display was all one more part of an ongoing provocation”, Pence says. Pence was scheduled to leave for the U.S. Saturday night.
He adding that the North Korean leader was “on a suicide mission” in continuing to develop a nuclear weapons programme.
U.S. Vice President Mike Pence is also in Pyeongchang for the opening ceremony.
Though it has no real medal contenders and sent only 22 athletes, North Korea has turned out to be a major political player in Pyeongchang. The two Koreas agreed in a joint statement to hold future talks on reducing military tension along their border and “actively cooperate” in the Olympics, with North Korea sending a delegation.
The North Korean Supreme People’s Assembly chief, Kim Young-nam, and leader Kim Jong-un’s younger sister, Kim Yo-jong, on Saturday met with President Moon Jae-in for a luncheon. “Because in my opinion, they’re pretty much the same person”, the Kim impersonator said. The greeting between Kim Yong Nam and Abe was the Japanese prime minister’s first interaction with a member of the Kim Jong-un government. USA officials have grown increasingly dire in their warnings about the North’s march toward developing an operational nuclear-tipped ballistic missile capable of reaching the continental U.S.
A large delegation from North Korea, dressed in identical garb and cheering in careful coordination, watched from an upper deck of the stadium.

Vice President Mike Pence, who will head the USA delegation at Friday’s opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in South Korea, will also be competing in a hard new event not on any Olympic program.
