Pence’s pick for governor clarifies claims
Major Indiana Republican donor Al Hubbard calls Holcomb’s letter “threatening”.

State Sen. Jim Tomes also entered the race for governor in recent days, but was considered by many party insiders to be a long shot in the race to replace Pence on the ballot. “We gave that money to the Republican nominee, not to Mike Pence to do whatever he wants”.
Donald Trump’s campaign announced Monday night that Pence will hold a town hall event Thursday in Grand Rapids and then a rally later that day in Oakland County. U.S. Reps. Susan Brooks and Todd Rokita are among other contenders for the nod.
The 22-member Indiana Republican state committee is voting Tuesday on the nominee. Pence picked Holcomb after his 2012 running mate, Sue Ellspermann, resigned in March.
Mike Pence’s pick to replace him on the ballot says an email he sent to GOP officials was not meant to suggest that other Republicans seeking the nomination would not get help from Pence should GOP leaders go against the governor’s wishes.
“Susan has a demonstrated record of winning tough elections”, Christie said.
A spokesman for Pence did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Former state party boss and Trump’s campaign manager in Indiana, Rex Early, says Democrat John Gregg is in trouble no matter who is selected.

Rokita’s campaign is highlighting his two wins in statewide elections as secretary of state before being elected to Congress in 2010 as evidence he would be the best candidate.
