Pence, saying he’s an unknown, calls for unity

Pence, who was formally announced as Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s running mate late last week, now serves as Indiana’s governor and previously was a Congressman for the state. Ted Cruz’s nonendorsement of Donald Trump just an hour before Pence took the stage, prompting a chaotic backlash from attendees.

But there was nothing to indicate that Trump was especially proud to have as a running mate a conservative whose readiness for the job no one has seriously questioned and who fits well with an idiosyncratic presidential nominee who purports to want to unite his party.

The speech marked Pence’s first widespread, national exposure during the campaign, and was seen as a way to bolster Trump, who has been viewed skeptically by some conservatives and evangelicals. Pence touted Indiana’s economic record in his speech.

There is expected to be “severe blowback” without an endorsement, per a convention source, in a very pro-Trump room as the GOP primary runner-up still withholds his official blessing in his speech after a bitter primary campaign.

“I’m a Christian, a conservative and a Republican”, Pence said.

But the GOP’s VP nominee lacks the eloquence of Cruz. “Let’s resolve here and now that Hillary Clinton will never become the president of the United States of America”.

More than half the state’s Congressional delegation chose not to come to the convention.

“The governor decided that it would be best for IN – with all these threats of economic terrorism against us – to change the bill or reword the bill slightly”, explains the family advocate.

Dad Donald Trump sat in the family box at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland to hear his son make the case for Trump’s election to the White House. Instead, Cruz used phrases like, “vote your conscience” in November.

Cruz, who so clearly wanted to cast himself last night as Ronald Reagan circa 1976, forgot a crucial lesson from Reagan circa 1964. Cruz said Trump was a “pathological liar”. Though some said they think his words and statements upset them, others said they believe his actions should speak louder than those words.

Kentucky Senator Ralph Alvarado switched briefly to Spanish during his speech to the Republican convention and urged voters to back Donald Trump.
