Pence explained he’s “not in the name-calling business” and he said he was “not going to validate the language Hillary Clinton used to describe the American people”. “I mean I can honestly tell you”.

Since joining Trump’s ticket, Pence has served as an intermediary between the controversial nominee and the Republican establishment, helping to mend frayed relationships after the GOP presidential primary season. They’re not sending you; they’re not sending you. We have said we do not want his support and we do not want the support of people who think like him.

After Hillary Clinton dismissed “half” of Donald Trump’s supporters as a “basket of deplorables” over the weekend, Team Make America Great Again embraced the pejorative as a term of pride, branding themselves the Deplorables. Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, is expected to introduce her father. If the aim was to dissuade undecided voters from choosing Trump because they don’t want to be lumped in with racists and sexists, the delivery of the line may backfire by driving them toward the Republican nominee in anger. Corker said everyone was impressed with how Pence conducted himself. “So why alienate those people?” She said she regretted saying half. Meyers also said that due to double standards, the rules are different for Clinton and Donald Trump.

Clay Sanders, of Waverly, Ohio, 69, a retired chief petty officer in the U.S. Navy, said he is leaning toward Clinton because of Trump’s lack of experience and temperament. Aides later said she was diagnosed Friday with pneumonia.

“The simple fact is I’m not in the name calling business”, Pence said Tuesday.

Pence spoke to reporters following a meeting with Republican leaders on Capitol Hill aimed to assuage concern about the party’s nominee. One of Trump’s harshest Republican critics, South Carolina Sen. Crowley, who stood near Clinton at Sunday’s ceremony, says the episode merely proves that “she is a human being” who is susceptible to colds, the flu and pneumonia.
