Penguins limiting Pavelski, but Sharks coach isn’t anxious

“They use the points a lot, then they look for those wrist shots, those half-slappers, and they’re looking for deflections”, Penguins coach Mike Sullivan said.

The Penguins have yet to convert on the power-play.

Praise was heaped upon Joonas Donskoi after the San Jose Sharks rookie forward scored the game-winning goal in in a 3-2 overtime victory in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final.

Sullivan said there’s “another level” to Malkin’s game to help the Penguins win. “When he turns it on, obviously what he can do is huge for our team”.

“We’re a team that prides ourselves on being fearless, on going back for pucks, on winning pucks against bigger players, on taking hits”, Lovejoy said.

It appeared that Penguins goalie Matt Murray was screened when Justin Braun scored in the first period as Evgeni Malkin slid across for a short block attempt. In a series that has featured three straight one-goal games all decided either in the final three minutes of regulation or overtime, some of the lesser-known players have delivered the goals. The Penguins — up 2-1 in the series, suddenly find themselves in a fight heading into Game 4 on Montonight in San Jose. It affects all parts of your game…. “Even if it gets blocked, a lot of times we can recover it. We’re going to keep our shooting mentality and keep firing”. San Jose needs to start this game fast and harness some of the energy from the crowd as they will be in deep if they fall behind early.

Though the Sharks did well to cut the deficit to 2-1 in the best-of-seven series with a 3-2 overtime win on Saturday, they did so despite being heavily outshot and outblocked. The team that scores first usually wins. “You see them leaving and they’re not happy”. “Ideally you want to put a puck where you can go get it or where you can put it in a position where the defenseman has to go take an awkward route and you can run them”. “We’re creating some chances”.

Both passed with flying colors.

Playing in the team’s first Cup finals, San Jose has handled it well. But Cole got the rebound all alone on the other side and fired it past a diving Jones for his first career playoff goal. They get pucks to the net. “I thought that was probably the case [for the Sharks in Game 3], and we won”. “I think every game’s gotten a little bit better, and I think the next one will be the best one so far”. That included a Kessel breakaway in the first period that was denied by Jones. I have no doubt he’s going to break through here.

The Sharks made a strong late push, and he robbed Couture, left all alone in the slot after a turnover by Kris Letang, late in the second. He was second on the team in the regular season with 52 points on 17 goals and 35 assists despite missing time because of a knee injury. The cheapest ticket found for Game 3 was priced at $739.

But Murray didn’t flinch and came up big again against Pavelski to preserve the lead, keeping the NHL’s leading goal scorer this postseason without a point in the final.

Sidney Crosby, for one night at least, was contained. Although, in fairness, one of them is Crosby.
