Penis-Shaped Pillars In Pennsylvania Town Creates Controversy

Abstract art many of you might agree is at times a matter of perspective. Every human being might have a different way of looking at a sculpture or a painting that has a deeper hidden meaning, but doesn’t look like much in the literal sense. Seems like this very thing might be the case with four pillars that were recently erected (pun intended) near a church, at a bus stop in Scott Township of, PA. Some people of this township are claiming that the pillars look like an erect penis. Well, in their defense when looked at without giving a thought they actually looked penis-shaped, but maybe there is a deeper hidden meaning to them as mentioned earlier.

Of course, there is also a possibility that whoever erected those pillars did it deliberately, meaning it to be a gag of sorts. Well, those artistic looking pillars are actually called bollards around which ropes can be tied. Interestingly enough, the townsfolk were all for erecting the bollards, but weren’t really expecting the outcome they now see. In fact, the whole issue has become a joke of sorts, with the street near where the pillars are, being christened Penis Street by many.

Penis-Shaped Pillars

One of the officials from Town Hall conceded that she did not see the pillars while commissioning them and that now she too isn’t very comfortable with the way they look. The town is now considering flattening the top of these pillars, so this whole controversy comes to an end. To be honest though, these penis-shaped pillars have managed to garner enough publicity for the town, which many might never have heard of otherwise. Also, not all locals agree with the decision of the city officials. They feel it is would be an overreaction to tamper with the pillars just because they look the way they do.

As a matter of fact, some townsfolk even commented that those who feel the bollards look penis-shaped should “get their minds out of the gutter”. For those unaware, bollards have been around since the time of the ancient Greeks and they were used to demarcate the boundary of temples. It would be really interesting to see if the town officials actually go ahead and use the taxpayer’s money for something as absurd as flattening the tops of these bollards just because they look like phalluses.
