Penn State football eyes quarterback battle into camp
So true. But Penn State needs to think twice. They ranked 13th in total offense and 11th in scoring in the Big Ten last season, a year that cost offensive coordinator John Donovan his job. That also depends on how some of the other guys, how their camp goes. Steve Lloyd has more from media day.

“That’s part of what fall camp is about, not just the implementation and improvement of the offense, but a little experimentation where you get some groupings in there and really see what you’re good at and what you’re best at”. But the coach also noted that this is the most depth he’s had across the roster since he’s been in Happy Valley, with competition at every position -something that hasn’t been the case in recent years.
Franklin said he believes that this is the best staff that he’s had so far in terms of how each coach fits what Penn State is and wants to be going forward. “That’s including long snapper”.
“Once I’ve given a school my word, I’m 100 percent committed”, Franklin said. The offensive line still has as much to prove as any unit in the country.
“I’m excited about looking forward, not back”, Frankin began, looking forward to a trio of new coordinators and increased competition and depth on his roster. But that’s not how the team came out on Thursday. The 6-foot-4, 315-pound defensive tackle has two seasons of eligibility remaining. He competed most of the spring on the left side.
“There’s a number of reasons why we’re going to do that, which I will not go into at this time”, Franklin said. “McCaffrey is a guy who can do it all”. “Really, the thing I love about it is he tries his best to get his playmakers in space and get them one-on-one with safeties, linebackers and cornerback”. To me, this is why I coach, stories like this … While he doesn’t anticipate that being in week one, Franklin did say that it would be optimal to have a starter named ahead of the Kent State game.
Palmer played both tackle spots a year ago.
“He has the athleticism and the frame to be… a good pass-rushing presence”, Friedman said.
As it turns out, McGovern won’t be the only Lehman alum on the squad this season. One of the nation’s premier athletes, McCaffrey set the bar for what a lethal running back can do given the chance to make plays in the open field from the outset.
“It’s unbelievable”, Monk said. “We have a great group here from Northeast Pa. And I think that keeps us all together. We like to joke around and talk all the time about where we’re from and everything”. “He’s had to overcome a lot of things in his life that, when the time is right, if he decides to get into those things with you guys in a public format, wonderful”. “But to me, this is why I coach. They were in communication with me more than any other school”.

Penn State coach James Franklin stated his wish to be crystal clear about his thoughts on the upcoming 2016 football season.
