Penn State student from Connecticut killed in auto crash

A 19-year-old Penn State University student was killed and six other students including a Gibsonia woman were injured Sunday afternoon and six other students were injured in a one-car accident on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Chester County.

The crash involved seven students in a auto returning from a trip to solicit donations a student-run philanthropy at Penn State.

Pennsylvania State Police have not released any information on the cause of the crash but say it is under investigation.

She was majoring in graphic design and was part of a group of students from the Alpha Chi Omega sorority.

Other people in the vehicle were injured and taken to the hospital, according to Turnpike officials.

Damon Sims, vice president for student affairs at the university, said: ‘The Penn State community and all who know the good work done through student involvement in THON are deeply saddened by this tragedy.

Several weekends each year called canning weekends are when students solicit from communities across the area to donate.

‘No words can express our sorrow when learning of this accident and of Tally’s passing. We ask that everyone respect the privacy of individuals directly involved.

Since 1977, the organization Thon has raised over $127 million for families who have patients with pediatric cancer and for cancer research.

The college student who had been a passenger was pronounced dead at the scene of the vehicle crash in Charleston Township, Pennsylvania along Pennsylvania Turnpike road.

The school’s counseling and psychological services (CAPS) will hold counseling sessions for groups across campus, according to the web post.
