Pennsylvania emergency officials prepare for Hurricane Joaquin

Morris County Office of Emergency Management released a statement Friday morning that latest forecasts show Hurricane Joaquin will remain “well offshore” and at this time does not appear to have any impact on Morris County.

Just as the state’s budget impasse reaches its 93rd day, Gov. Tom Wolf has ordered all agencies under his purview to freeze all non-essential spending and hiring.

“This does not mean, however, that we should let our guard down”, Director Jeff Paul said.

Families are also urged to come up with an emergency plan and assemble an emergency kit for homes and cars.

Wolf asked Pennsylvanians to be prepared with three days’ worth of food and necessary medications.

The National Hurricane Center now predicts the storm will completely miss Pennsylvania. “We’re asking you to recognize that the citizens are all part of our emergency response community”, says Flinn.

Pennsylvania Department of Transportation crews were out Thursday in flood-prone areas clearing tree limbs and ensuring that drains were clear, Secretary Leslie Richards said.

According to Red Cross CEO Judge Renee Cardwell Hughes, the Red Cross is “calling volunteers and getting supplies, vehicles and relief equipment ready” in states all along the East Coast.
