Pennsylvania GOP candidate bets on Trump: ‘I’m ready to be his wingman’
Trump’s move on tariffs is deeply opposed by congressional Republicans and the business wing of the GOP. “Rick is going to vote for us all the time”. Ivanka Trump campaigned with Saccone last month, before this last-minute push.

In a campaign stop three days before a crucial special election for Congress, Donald Trump advocated the death penalty for drug dealers in the course of an hour-long rambling campaign style speech where he bashed television anchors, unveiled his re-election slogan and discussed nuclear arms negotiations with North Korea.
The effects of Trump’s steel and aluminum tariffs aren’t yet known.
But it’s not clear what effect that could have on the final outcome.
“The president and his policies are popular in PA-18”, said Alexander.
Saccone faces off against Democratic candidate Conor Lamb, who is a veteran and a former federal prosecutor, in a district President Trump won by almost 20 points in the 2016 presidential election.
Short on campaign cash, Saccone has relied nearly entirely on outside groups like CLF and the national party desperate to keep the House seat red. The special election is to replace Republican Rep. Tim Murphy, who resigned a year ago.
Addressing a rally in a Pittsburgh suburb, Trump endorsed a Republican candidate in a closely-watched upcoming special congressional election, before turning to his own political future. “We need more Republicans to continue our already successful agenda!” Trump said as he mockingly took a stiff pose and talked in a monotone which brought laughter to the audience, “Or do you want to see this?” he said going back to his animated self much to the cheers of the crowd.
Mr. Trump had tough words for potential Democratic foes in 2020, calling Massachusetts Sen.
Trump’s remarks this weekend mirror a speech he made at the White House Opioids Summit last week, when he suggested again that drug dealers should have to face the death penalty. Pennsylvania’s Supreme Court has redrawn the districts, with Lamb and Saccone both living outside its new boundaries. Allegheny County, which is in the 18th District, had the highest drug overdose death rate in the nation in 2016, according to the Pew Research Center.
On Sept. 22, Trump held a rally in Huntsville, Alabama, to encourage his supporters to vote in the GOP primary for Luther Strange, who had been appointed to fill the Senate seat vacated by Attorney General Jeff Sessions, R. While on stage, Trump acknowledged he “might have made a mistake” in endorsing Strange, who went on to lose the primary to Roy Moore, whom numerous president’s supporters had endorsed. “If the Democrats were to prevail in western Pennsylvania, that would be quite an natural disaster”, Rep. Charlie Dent said last week.
The National Republican Congressional Committee also launched a television ad hitting Lamb for striking a plea deal with a drug dealer when he was a US attorney.
Most of Saccone’s appearances over the last week have been closed to the public, and those that weren’t, attracted only a handful of supporters. He praised Singapore and China for their “zero-tolerance” policies on drugs.
Trump held a rally in Pennsylvania endorsing Rick Saccone against democrat Connor Lamb for the House seat vacated by Tim Murphy who resigned after telling his mistress to get an abortion.

“The right-to-work thing is always a tricky thing, because look, when I talk to union members, they tell me they’re willing to compete”, Saccone said. “If a strong pro-Trump district like this goes the other way, it would send a bad signal around the country in districts far more competitive than this one”.
