Pentagon scrambles jets to protect United States forces from Syrian bombing
The Pentagon warned the Syrian government on August 19 not to strike USA and coalition personnel in Syria, a day after the regime carried out airstrikes in an area near American special operations forces, prompting the U.S.to scramble jets to protect them, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The U.S. aircraft arrived as the two Syrian jets were leaving, Davis said, so the U.S. had no radio contact with them.
United States fighter jets tried to engage Syrian Arab Air Force aircraft in Syria but the showdown was avoided as government planes left before the Americans arrived, according to the Pentagon.
No coalition forces were harmed in Thursday’s Syrian airstrikes, Pentagon spokesman Maj.

Thursday’s government raids were the first time the regime bombarded Kurdish positions from the air. “Since the USA has been interfering militarily in China’s backyard in the South China Sea, this could be push-back from the Chinese military into an area, the Middle East, that is usually considered a U.S. sphere of military influence”, it reported.

More than 290,000 people have been killed since Syria’s conflict erupted in March 2011.

Knowing Russia’s strong support for the regime of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad, Davis said a message was sent for them to pass along to the Syrian military “stating our intent to take whatever action is necessary”.
