She also has the Phelps-ian stat of having won gold in 17 of 18 races between the world championships and Olympics in her career, which began at 15 years old just like Phelps.
The United States edged ahead at the top of the medal table following Tuesday’s action as they picked up four more golds to China’s three.
In 2006, Katie Ledecky would have been a nine-year-old Phelps fan.
Back then, Ledecky was a kid.
Okay, so for all those aspiring Olympians out there, just take a picture with Katie and hope that it pays off the same way for you!
By the time of their autograph session, Phelps had already swam in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney and the 2004 Games in Athens, winning six gold medals in the latter.
Meanwhile, 19-year-old Ledecky completed the second part of a potential treble in the freestyle events as she added 200 gold to the 400 title she took earlier in the week. On Wednesday, she entered the pool during the 4x200m relay final with a deficit. She would later exit with an insane lead for the US.

It was not, however, Ledecky’s first brush with a famous athlete.
