Pep Guardiola critical of his players despite away win at Swansea City

City made it a ideal six Premier League wins from six under Guardiola after Aguero scored in each half – including a 65th-minute penalty after Michael van der Hoorn brought down Kevin de Bruyne. Raheem Sterling stretched the lead in the 77th minute making it 3-1 in favour of his team.

However, the reality of Swansea’s situation bit in the second half as City’s ruthless showing inflicted a fourth defeat from six Premier League games for Guidolin’s men, leaving them staring at another relegation battle.

Guardiola said: “I want to congratulate him on his performance, especially for the first goal”.

“I’m so happy for him, but he knows that I want more”. He can play better.

“In the box, he is going to help us a lot”.

“Sergio is quality. His first step, second step in the box is so good and that is why he is one of the best strikers in the world but I want to help him improve his game”.

“For how he reacted, it looks muscular, but I’m not a doctor fortunately”.

With speculation intensifying daily about Guidolin’s future, Swansea needed a bright start, and they had the ball in the net via Sigurdsson after just five minutes, but referee Neil Swarbrick had already whistled for a foul by Jack Cork.

“We didn’t create too many chances early in the game, then (Fernando) Llorente scored a fantastic goal”.

“We arrived many, many times with [Kevin] De Bruyne, [David] Silva and [Ilkay] Gundogan but it was unbelievable that we were in that situation so often but didn’t make the final pass, but then we got the penalty and then a third goal so we were able to win”.

A trip to White Hart Lane next Sunday is set to give them a test, one Guardiola is excited about.

Guidolin’s men continued to threaten as Llorente made a nuisance of himself and driving runs forward from the likes of Sigurdsson and Wayne Routledge asked persistent questions of Guardiola’s high defensive line.

“I don’t know what the chairman or the owner think. What is important for me, is that I work hard with the players and have a good relationship with them”.

“I have not spoken to the chairman”.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola before the EPL game against Swansea at the Liberty Stadium September 24, 2015.

“I am proud of my players, but of course, I am disappointed with the result”.

Both teams had chances to score again before the interval.

“We didn’t create a lot of clear chances – we created a lot of “almost” chances but our final pass wasn’t good enough today. We arrived many, many times with De Bruyne, Silva and Gundogan but it was wonderful that we were in that situation so often but didn’t make the final pass, but then we got the penalty and then a third goal so we were able to win”. There is the referee and he is the judge. My opinion is not important.

“It had been a good game for us up until then. But I have seen my team grow up”.
