Pep Guardiola: ‘Still room for Manchester City improvement’

City reached the semi-finals last season and began their sixth successive group stage campaign with a convincing 4-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach in a delayed clash at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday.

After a bright start to his career with City, Guardiola feels optimistic about having a good time in the ongoing season.

“I think tomorrow he (Silva) will not be able to play”, Guardiola said.

I can see us having to do an terrible lot of defending, so with that in mind, I’d like to see us set up defensively with the usual back four, Midfield of King, Surman, Arter, Ake, Brad Smith, with Wilson up top.

“We had for the weather conditions one day more, for our regeneration after the Manchester United game, and now we have one day less for our regeneration, but it is what it is. Next time I will be there”.

“We try to do absolutely everything to take care of our players in terms of training and the way they eat, their food, their rest – without good vitamins, good food, good drink and good rest you can not compete every few days over 11 months”. We have to be proud to play in this competition.

“We had a problem with David in the morning”.

“We know the quality that they have but we’ve got to try and frustrate them and play our game and hopefully we can nick something”, he told the Bournemouth website. “Hopefully against Barcelona and Celtic it will happen”, he added.

Sergio Aguero is understood to have signed a 12-month contract extension which will keep him at Manchester City until 2020.

However, following detailed talks throughout the summer the 28-year-old has now agreed to stay for a further season, prolonging his stay at City to nine years in which he has become one of the best strikers in the world.

Guardiola is yet to decide if the midfielder can play on Saturday. “I need him to put pressure on John Stones, Nico Otamendi, Kolarov – all of them”.

The jeering of the anthem is in response to controversies featuring City, from the abuse of former player Mario Balotelli by Porto fans, to the heavy fine imposed upon them for breaking Financial Fair Play rules and their behind-closed- doors game away to CSKA Moscow.

“They need to play”. Both feet, so intelligent, doesn’t lose the ball, good arriving in the box and when attacking with the ball.
