Manchester City have always hoped that, having brought in chief executive Ferran Soriano and sporting director Txiki Begiristain, who worked closely with Guardiola at Barcelona, they would be in pole position to secure his services.
Arguably the world’s best football coach Pep Guardiola prefers a move a to Manchester United over local and title rivals Manchester City.
Reports in Spain – including in Catalonian newspaper ARA and El Mundo Deportivo – have claimed Guardiola has agreed to take over at Manchester City.
Guardiola will see his contract with Bayern expire at the end of the season and contract talks are yet to be held.
The former Barcelona manager is in the third and final year of his Bayern Munich deal and no negotiations have taken place over extending his time in Germany.
“We will work on things in training so that we at least look good there”, he told the Berliner Zeitung newspaper.
Manuel Pellegrini is contracted until 2017, but City will be ready to wield the axe on the Chilean if a man of Guardiola’s stature becomes available sooner.
City are determined to pounce first after they failed in their bid to lure Guardiola from Bayern last summer, with the race to snare the two-time Champions League winning tactician heating up.
Pep Guardiola’s future continues to be the subject of speculation but the Bayern boss declared on Sunday that he is “happy” in Munich.
Hertha Berlin coach Pal Dardai said his side had “nothing to be ashamed of” after losing 2-0 to a Bayern Munich side he believes do not belong in the Bundesliga.
Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Bayern’s boss Pep Guardiola are keen on joining forces at Manchester United next season. “Players come and go and it is the same for coaches”.
