Pepsi dives into the Chinese smartphone market
Looks like our guesses on PepsiCo China’s upcoming smartphone were right.

It’ll also have a 13-megapixel camera on the back and 5-megapixel camera on the front.
But none of that’s important – all we really want to know is whether it dispenses Pepsi and how Coca-Cola is planning to respond to this aggressive expansion.
One of the world’s largest companies, Pepsi is about to enter an unknown territory. It’s expected to be officially announced on October 20 in Beijing.
Rumours state that there’s a 5.5-inch screen, with a 1920×1080 resolution. Also, there are reportedly no plans to permanently get into the mobile phone business.
“Available in China only, this effort is similar to recent globally licensed Pepsi products which include apparel and accessories”, a spokeswoman noted.
Speaking of which, Pepsi P1 has been price at $205 in China, but it could cost slightly more if the device will be launched in other countries. On top of that, Pepsi could unveil the phone next Tuesday. However, it would have been pragmatic for the company to launch a Pepsi app rather than partnering with someone else to launch a full-fledged smartphone.

While we aren’t aware of any Pepsi-owned smartphone manufacturing facilities, the leaks are silent on who’ll be assembling these phones for the cola giant. Pepsi P1 would feature a true octa-core 1.7GHz MediaTek MT6592 processor and ARM Mali-450 MP4 graphics processor. Keep in mind this phone, which is thought to be called the P1, might not see a release outside of Asia if and when it does become official. Pepsi partnered with Danish luxury stereo and TV maker Bang & Olufsen in 2014, and Del Toro, Italian shoemaker, for marketing a range of products under Pepsi brand.
