Fryer couldn’t handle Bastardo’s return throw to the plate allowing Jankowski to score easily. It was Jankowski’s 25th stolen base and second theft of home this season. He also stole home against the Milwaukee Brewers on August 1.

Ryan Vogelsong hasn’t had great luck in 2016. Asked to make a start, he was hit in the face by a pitch, which sidelined him for over two months.

Padres: LHP Christian Friedrich (4-7, 4.76 ERA) will start Thursday in the finale of the three-game series and look to end his five-game losing streak that covers seven starts since June 23. He has gone 2-0 with a 3.91 ERA in five starts with the Pirates this season and 6-3 with a 2.37 ERA in 16 starts for Indianapolis.
