Perez gives Benitez a vote of confidence

Real were thrashed 4-0 at home by Barcelona in Saturday’s El Clasico, to leave Benitez’ side six points behind leaders Barca.

However, Real president Florentino Perez publicly backed Benitez in a press conference on Monday night – although that same gesture did not bode well for Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti in the past.

But Perez defended Benitez at a hastily arranged press conference, saying: “We want to communicate that he has all our support and confidence”. “He was the coach that we picked for his professionalism, his trajectory and his experience”. “I’m grateful to the board of directors and to the president for their support”.

“I’ve been in football many years”.

“With the match now over, we can clearly say that the lineup didn’t work”, said the coach, who was hired by Madrid less than six months ago.

“Very cleverly, Real Madrid are trying to make it look like he wants to go, and that he deserves to go”.

“If you are talking now, then I am pretty sure that Florentino will think of something different”, he told Sky Sports.

“He’s had a vote confidence, they are usually deadly at Real Madrid, we’ll just have to wait and see”, Gerrard said when speaking as a pundit on BT Sport’s Champions League coverage on Tuesday night.

In the spoof video, former Chelsea and Liverpool boss, Benitez, appears to lose his cool with a Spanish journalist, threatening to hit him, while another questions Ronaldo’s future which brings a great response from the Real coach. I just wonder what his relationship is like with his big players in the dressing room.

Ancelotti was sacked by Real Madrid in the summer after failing to win any major trophies as Barcelona won the treble of La Liga, UEFA Champions league and the Copa Del Rey. Things are fine at the moment.

The club said the president will talk to the media, making his first public comments since Saturday’s game at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, when fans loudly jeered the president and Benitez during and after the match.

“There are two things about that game – our performance on the day and the fact that they had a doped player”. We signed him to turn things around.

“The feeling that I have is that we’re enjoying ourselves out there on the field”, Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic said after the win against Roma advanced his team to the knockout stage of the Champions League for the 12th straight season.
