Perkins Township police give elementary school ‘all clear’ after bomb threat

According to Fire Chief Jimmy Hamill with the Springfield Fire Department, after a careful search of the school no device was found and the all clear was given for the students to return to class. The procession will leave the high school at 1:10 p.m., will travel east on Highway 70 and turn left onto Highway 56, then left onto Don Cantrell Street by City Hall to the courthouse square, bypassing both Smithville Elementary and Northside.

A bomb threat was called in to Allons Elementary School in Overton County, prompting those students to be evacuated.

Officers investigated the school using bomb sniffing dogs and did not locate anything of interest. The Bell Creek school officials are waiting for a K9 to come and clear the school. Multiple agencies are investigating the matter.

Officials say the caller made a threat that they determined serious enough to take immediate action at around 11:23 a.m.

Parents are encouraged to pick up their children at regular dismissal, but if they want to pick their children up early, they need to report to the front of the gym with a photo ID. Great Job by all the staff and local law enforcement that assisted the Perkins Police department today.
