During the press conference, de Blasio said officials were also investigating high winds and the extension added to the boom Thursday, which was approved by inspectors, as a cause of the collapse.

Greg Galasso, whose Galasso Trucking company was operating the crane, declined to comment.
“It was right outside my window”, witness Robert Harold told the AP news agency. The crane was being lowered from a building-it had been about 20 stories up-due to the day’s high winds when it collapsed.
None of the buildings hit as the crane fell sustained structural damage, NBC reported.
Beginning Jan. 30, a crawler crane, which can extend up to 565 feet and lift 330 tons, occupied the two blocks of Worth Street between Church Street and Hudson Street for the goal of bringing generators and air conditioners to 60 Hudson Street, the former Western Union Building, according to officials.

The incident is the latest in a series involving cranes in New York City. The crane is owned by Bay Crane, of Long Island City, Queens, which has a fairly good safety record. It seemed, to him, like the wrong sort of crane to use on the building in question.
The Prague-born immigrant worked at a computerised trading firm, said his sister-in-law, Lisa Guttman.
The New York Post quoted Paul Capotosto, treasurer of the NYPD’s Sergeants Benevolent Association, who was in the association’s nearby office when it collapsed.
As officials and rescue workers continue to try to clean up and ensure those impacted by the crane collapse are safe, our thoughts are with the victims of this sudden and scary tragedy. “We lost a life, but if you go out there on the street and see what happened here, thank God it was not worse”.
However, Comptroller Scott Stringer said in a 2014 audit that the city Department of Buildings hadn’t fully implemented safety recommendations on cranes and other issues, and Stringer reiterated his concerns Friday.
A collapsed crane is visible within the LyondellBasell Houston Refinery on July 18, 2008 in Houston. She called Wichs a wonderful person.
A firefighter was also injured at the scene but it was not serious, officials said.
The AC unit plummeted almost 30 stories, shearing the side of the building and injuring two construction workers and eight pedestrians.
