Pervaiz Rashid terms Election Tribunal verdict biased

“We respect election tribunal’s decision but do not agree with it since the tribunal did not de-seat PTI PMA from NA-122 but just ordered reelection on the seat won by PML-N”, he said while talking to media persons in Islamabad. Result was declared after the delay of several hours. The situation nearly escalated, with the party workers coming face-to-face and chanting slogans against each other. Imran Khan darna for more than 100 days paid off and judgment came in favor of PTI.

Meanwhile, Ayaz Sadiq has announced to challenge the verdict about NA-122 by the tribunal in the apex court.

It should be borne in mind that chairman Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf Imran Khan had filed a petition for electoral rigging against the victor Ayaz Sadiq, who had polled more votes than Imran and had been declared as the victor .

Party workers and activists belonging to the Pakistan Muslim League-N and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf had also gathered outside the Election Commission office.

PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi termed the decision as historic, adding that it would go a long way in ensuring a transparent election system in Pakistan, the Dawn reported.

On June 16, tribunal’s judge ordered both the counsels for PTI and PML-N to present their conclusive arguments.

“Even if re elections take place in the NA-122 constituency of Lahore, PTI will meet a fate similar to Haripur”, Rashid added. When proceedings for the case began in July 2013, Ayaz Sadiq obtained a stay order. As a shield from tribunal’s verdict, Sadiq approached LHC to get a stay order which was granted in September. The NA speaker also recorded his statement before the tribunal on Feb 7, 2015. The recounting of votes was given in the supervision of a local commission which was headed by retired sessions judge Ghulam Hussain.

The tribunal constituted a one-member commission for scrutiny of votes, which in its report pointed out massive irregularities.
