Peter King Unloads on Ted Cruz and his ‘Lizard Smirk’
Two days after speaking at the Republican National Convention, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell had to come out and say that he disagreed with Trump about North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and reassure our allies that no, we wouldn’t abandon one of America’s longest-lasting alliances.

As the last speaker in a four-day marathon of events in Cleveland, Trump has his biggest chance yet to try to end the bickering among various factions of the Republican Party and foster a spirit of unity. He was just repeating what he’d read in a very reliable publication, the National Enquirer, Trump insisted Friday: “This was a magazine that, frankly, in many respects, should be very respected”.
Overseas U.S. allies as well as voters at home will be closely watching his address, which comes the day after his suggestion that he might not defend America’s North Atlantic Treaty Organisation partners as president.
He closed the speech out with one more shot at his rivals.
The Texan senator finished a distant second to Mr Trump in the race for the nomination after a bitter and personal campaign, and mentioned the nominee only once in his speech at the national convention – and that was to congratulate him on winning the nomination.
Trump is to be introduced by his eldest daughter, Ivanka, one of his most polished and effective advocates. Demonstrators took to the streets this afternoon, and plan to rally again this evening. Snopes.com took a look at that claim and cast doubt on the connection Carson suggested: “Based on what she has actually said and written about Saul Alinsky, to characterize Hillary Clinton as a starry-eyed acolyte of the Rules for Radicals author is a stretch”.
“If he does that, it doesn’t matter that the Bushes or Romney or others don’t have a presence of the convention”, he said via phone from the convention, referring to former President George W. Bush and former presidential candidate Mitt Romney who refused to attend due to their disagreement with Trump.
“He will fight for equal pay for equal work and I will fight for this too, right alongside of him”, Ivanka said to applause. “There are still a lot of people at the convention and within the party who are not sure where he’s going to stand”.
Trump repeated his often-quoted promise to “build a great border wall” to stop illegal immigration, but also outlined several policies to protect the country from global terrorism.
They applauded everything he said until they realized he wasn’t going to say the only thing they really wanted to hear. “The problems we face now – poverty and violence at home, war and destruction overseas – will last only as long as we continue relying on the same politicians who created them”.
Democrats, Republicans and worldwide partners warned of the risks of backing away from North Atlantic Treaty Organisation obligations.
“He probably thinks he’s on top of the world, like he’s the messiah”, King said.
Trump repeated that attack, and warned that “the damage and devastation that can be inflicted by Islamic radicals” could threaten more communities under a Clinton presidency.
As Trump wrapped up his convention, Clinton was closing in on her selection of a running mate. But that goal seemed guaranteed to go unfulfilled following Cruz’s stubborn defiance on the convention stage.
Ivanka Trump, daughter of Republican Presidential Nominee Donald J. Trump, speaks during the final day of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Thursday, July 21, 2016.
A chant of “Endorse Trump” began but Cruz plowed on.
That was perhaps in reaction to the speech given on Monday night by Trump’s wife Melania, who was accused of plagiarism when she repeated lines from a 2008 speech by Michelle Obama, Obama’s wife. “So are we willing to elect someone as president who has as their role model someone who acknowledges Lucifer?” Trump threatened to start a super PAC to oppose Cruz if the Texas senator ran for president, asking Pence whether that was legally permitted. Mike Pence, the vice-presidential nominee, gave a conservative speech that nearly all Republicans could applaud. He promised a “simplified” tax system for the middle class and businesses, fewer regulations and renegotiation of trade deals that he says have put working class Americans at a disadvantage. These are the forgotten men and women of our country.
