Peter Thiel’s ‘I’m Proud to Be Gay’ Moment at RNC: Reaction

As previewed, Thiel cast Hillary Clinton as a warmonger and praised Trump as a better steward of the economy. The GOP nominee said he’d nominate Supreme Court justices who might overturn the decision legalizing gay marriage.

“I am proud to be a Republican”, he continued.

In the speech, Trump made one of the most high profile acknowledgements and defenses of LGBTQ Americans by demanding their protection in the wake of terrorists attacks.

Thiel, PayPal co-founder and board member of Facebook, told the crowd, “I am proud to be gay, I am proud to be a Republican, but most of all, I am proud to be an American”. The transgender activist and Olympic gold medalist is speaking at a breakfast at the Republican National Convention to promote LGBT inclusion in the GOP.

“If anything it’s actually really good for Silicon Valley Republicans because so few of them have any sort of direct-like of communication with the Trump campaign at all”, said Mason Harrison, who spoke to NBC Bay Area from the convention via Skype.

“When I was a kid the great debate was about how to defeat the Soviet Union”, he said. This a distraction from our real problems.

Peter Thiel, the Libertarian-leaning Silicon Valley billionaire, is known for his contrarian political views, but he still raised plenty of eyebrows in the valley when he signed up to be one of three Trump delegates from San Francisco.

“I am proud to be gay”, he said. I am proud to be a Republican. Thiel offered a full-throated endorsement of Trump, echoing the Republican prospect’s styles of financial decrease while berating financial and foreign policies that have actually enabled the country to get embroiled in “silly wars”.

Tech entrepreneur Peter Thiel said both he and Donald Trump were builders. “The Apollo Program was just about to put a man on the moon and it was Neil Armstrong from right here in Ohio”. More troublingly, he seems to have borrowed liberally from the Back to the Future film franchise.

“When Donald Trump asks us to Make America Great Again, he’s not suggesting a return to the past”. Thiel said that level of “incompetence” was unacceptable, and has led to a situation in which “instead of going to Mars, we’ve invaded the Middle East” – a problem which should clearly be laid at the feet of Democrats. Thiel, whose Founders Fund invests in futuristic technologies like artificial intelligence and space travel, thinks there needs to be a lot more of it.
