Petition Demands Rotten Tomatoes Be Shut Down Over Negative DC Movie Reviews
The year’s most muddled piece of storytelling.

Rotten Tomatoes does not review films, they just collect reviews from different critics and average out the total score.
The negative reviews rolling in for Suicide Squad have some DC Comics fans upset – but not about the movie. And that’s when the tizzies began.
Many have questioned the validity of the petition considering Rotten Tomatoes doesn’t actually review films but the petition’s organiser responded by saying he understands the site will not be shut down and that the petition is really a way of sending a message to critics that a lot of people disagree with their views. And whether that’s an accurate assessment or not has taken a backseat among fans of DC Films (particularly those who have yet to see the movie) in favor of puzzling over why DC’s films are consistently panned, and whether critical aggregators – Rotten Tomatoes in particular – have any place in a medium in which the opinions of many fans don’t necessarily don’t line up with critical consensus. Suicide Squad has generated that hype in spades. And I might only point out that The Dark Knight, Batman Begins, Richard Donner’s Superman, and the Tim Burton Batman films are some of the most critically praised comic-book movies on the books.
However, the creator has since added a clarification stating that the goal of the petition is not actually to shut down Rotten Tomatoes, but rather to send a message.
Suicide Squad hasn’t premiered in worldwide theaters yet, but early reviews are giving an eerily familiar déjà vu just five ago with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Newsarama’s own Suicide Squad review is forthcoming. I, for one, would say that, as far as Marvel properties go, only the first and third Iron Man movies and Sam Raimi’s first two Spider-Man films are in the same class as those DC titles, and even that’s a bit of a stretch. My hope is that anyone who is interested in the film follows suit, but that’s just one person’s opinion.
