Peyton Manning cited in suit alleging “hostile sexual environment”
It’s an understatement to say that the news soured the night for me. Numerous court documents he “analyzed” had been reported on before, albeit sparingly, and most of the details of the case have been available to study for over a decade – but there was still a sizeable portion of the population that either didn’t know the whole story or didn’t know about it at all.

So today we have the latest cautionary tale about where we find our heroes.
The lawsuit claims the university’s administrative hearing process is “one-sided” and “denies victims the rights to a hearing and to the same equal procedural, hearing, and process rights as given to perpetrators of rape and sexual assault”.
The New York Daily News reported this weekend on legal documents they obtained, originally from 2003, which detail an incident in 1996 when Manning was a sophomore at Tennessee.
TAMI CHAPPELL/REUTERS A lawsuit against the University of Tennessee alleges that there was systemic disregard for women claiming sexual harassment at the school, citing an instance involving then-student Peyton Manning. The case was settled and ended with the dismissal of the trainer and a payment of $300,000 and some Tennessee memorabilia. Of course, the terms remained confidential.
There was a previous incident with Manning and Naughright in 1994, during Manning’s first semester on campus. The case was settled in 1997 on the condition Naughright leave her position, the lawsuit said.
Was accused of sitting on the face of a female athletic trainer, bare-assed, spread wide. The dining room ban was subsequently reduced to two weeks as well.
“While it is outrageous that the University of Tennessee chose to turn a blind eye to sexual violence by student athletes like Manning, it would be flat-out unacceptable for the National Football League and major companies like Nationwide Insurance and Papa John’s Pizza to continue to stand with Manning in light of emerging evidence”, Chaudhary said in the statement.
It’s hard to believe that the Mannings did not write these excerpts without malice toward Dr. Naughright.
Sunday, Cindy Boren of the Washington Post, talked with a number of lawyers offering different perspectives on the story and noting that the 74-page document only represents one side of the story. Meanwhile, the book remains for sale and Manning contemplates whether to walk away from the game, as the National Football League investigates the report that HGH was mailed to his wife at their home.
Quarterback Peyton Manning of the Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos will be the featured speaker for the inaugural South Dakota Sports Awards.
The organization can’t afford to get too cute, though, because in a quarterback-starved league, a bidding war could erupt for Osweiler if he does get to the market and with plenty of other free-agent headaches to deal with, starting with Super Bowl MVP Von Miller, the last thing Elway wants is Osweiler’s deal growing past his budgetary plans.
Five years after the incident, both parties had seemingly moved on: Peyton was the quarterback of the Indianapolis Colts and Naughright was the program director of Florida Southern’s athletic training program.

The lawsuit filed last week in federal court in Nashville states Tennessee has violated Title IX regulations and created a “hostile sexual environment” through a policy of indifference toward assaults by student-athletes.
