Brock Osweiler will start Sunday at quarterback in place of Peyton Manning when the Denver Broncos play the New England Patriots.
Manning is considered week to week, and such was the nature of his rehabilitation that the Broncos opted to leave him back in Denver for the weekend so he could focus on his recovery. Osweiler led the Broncos to a 17-15 win over the Chicago Bears in Week 11.
I guarantee that every coach of a playoff-bound team would rest his quarterback for part of December if he knew the team would continue to play well. The quarterback will now be out for at least two more games after the Broncos just received more bad news. “Here’s the deal – we got healthier here today”.
Despite doing exactly what I mentioned he should do in my previous post, the Broncos’ win seemed a little too close for comfort.
Kubiak has said he’s intent on keeping an 8-2 team that still has designs on the big prize focused on the here and now – rather than focus on scenarios where Manning is healthy enough to return with Osweiler playing well.

Peyton Manning may well become the best quarterback in the history of American football, but he’s only human. He started 26 games in his first two seasons in Minnesota, but just nine in the third and just one in 2014. And go back to Gary Kubiak and what he wanted to do in the beginning of the season with the play-action game and boot legs, that may be a better fit right now with Brock Osweiler than it was with Peyton.
So instead of having two high-powered offenses slugging it out as is usually the case when the Patriots and Broncos meet, and Tom Brady and Manning go toe-to-toe, this will be different.

Manning is dealing with a torn plantar fascia, which prevents him from stepping into his throws. The first four plays of the Broncos at the opening resulted to 74 yards for the team. “Like I said, we’re all in on the next football game”. Now that he has a clean slate in Osweiler to shout at through the head piece, it’ll be much more closer to how he likes it, although Osweiler himself has his own set of flaws and things that he can’t do.
