“I am inviting the United Nations”.
With President Duterte in his brief but historic sortie in the province of Camarines Sur were Secretary of National Defense Delfin N. Lorenzana, Presidential Adviser on Military Affairs (PAMA) Undersecretary Arthur Tabaquero, Defense Operations Under Secretary Cesar B. Yano, AFP Vice Chief of Staff (VCS) LTG Glorioso V. Miranda, Philippine Army Commanding General LTG Eduardo M. Año and Commander of Southern Luzon Command LTG Ferdinand F. Quidilla.
“‘Di pa nga nila alam kung sino’ng nagpapatayan (They don’t even know who is killing whom), why do [they] attribute all the killings in Manila to the police and me when as a matter of fact, [they] know that there were gangsters, including police generals?” said an outraged Duterte.
“If one is able to see through the noise created by negative headlines, he may have better and comprehensive understanding of the exciting, positive changes that are ahead of the Philippines”, he added.
But in keeping with the time-honoured principle of the right to be heard, I will grill them after they are finished making theirs, the President said. I will write them a letter to invite them for an investigation.
On top of that, the President has rejected any worldwide criticism of his war on drugs. “You can watch how I will beat these devils to the ground”.
Duterte earlier slammed the United Nations and the European Union for criticizing him and his bloody crackdown on illegal drugs.
The United Nations: In August, Duterte described the global body as “stupid” and useless, and threatened to withdraw the Philippines from it.
Speaking at the opening of a 405-megawatt coal-fired power plant in Misamis Oriental province, Duterte also lashed out at the European Union for pushing developing countries like the Philippines to regulate non-renewable energy sources when their countries were among the first to pollute the world.
“These Caucasians are amusing”, Duterte said.
“We want to achieve a kind of economic growth that is not only robust and sustainable, but one that actually lifts significantly more Filipinos out of poverty”.
Meanwhile, Philippine military officials have announced the first large-scale combat exercises between USA and Filipino forces although Duterte has been critical of American security policies.
The U.S. and Philippine militaries are scheduled to hold joint amphibious landing exercises in the Philippines next week amidst recent diplomatic spat between the two treaty allies, a spokesman for the Philippine armed forces said on Thursday.
“These organisations need to agree to the protocols and parameters that we will set before they are allowed to visit the country”, Jose said.
