Phelan considering Hull job offer after Arsenal defeat
Hull remain in takeover negotiations, with the club’s prospective new owners said to be keen to appoint Mike Phelan as manager on a permanent basis.

Arsenal hold a 25-match unbeaten record against newly-promoted teams but that run is on the line against Hull, who have offered caretaker Mike Phelan the full-time job.
More positively, Phelan is excited about the prospect of facing Arsenal, last season’s Premier League runners-up.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will bring Petr Cech back into his starting line-up for Saturday’s clash with Hull at the KCOM Stadium.
Hull pulled one back through a Robert Snodgrass penalty, but Sanchez bagged his second of the game before Granit Xhaka – who replaced Santi Cazorla in the 67th minute – rifled home his first goal for the club with a phenomenal 30-yard strike in second-half stoppage time.
The 25-year-old former Lincoln and Hereford midfielder has impressed during Hull’s critic-silencing start to the campaign which sees them now in eighth place.
The teams are used to meeting in the FA Cup, after drawing each other in the past three seasons, including Arsenal’s memorable comeback in the final three seasons ago.
Francis Coquelin and Tom Huddleston.
Hull City are now without a permanent manager.
The Tigers come into the game having only been beaten by a very late goal by Manchester United, and will be somewhat confident of earning a point from today’s game.
A win against Hull would leave Arsenal on 10 points from their opening five games, level with Liverpool, who beat Chelsea last night.
It may have seemed harsh but despite recent rule changes you can still be sent off for deliberate handball – which as his hand was away from his body seemed the only sensible decision to take, despite the anger from the home fans. While it worked against Hull City, the same can not be said in the big away games and Wenger should stick with the Chilean on the left wing and start Lucas Perez in the lone striker’s position.
The lack of goals coming from both sides so far this season suggests this game could be a tough one to watch and I can’t see either side grabbing it by the scruff of the neck.

“If you get in that area, it can be hard so we have to be in the frame of mind that we can go to the next level”, he added. They will need something special to get anything out this game if Arsenal turn the screw after the interval.
