Phelan urges Hull owners to strengthen squad
“We deserved it and in a more comfortable way”.

Mourinho’s United side secured their third successive victory of the new Premier League season at Hull City on Saturday evening – Marcus Rashford scoring an injury-time victor – and go into the global break joint top of the fledgling table. No problem for me to take him out.
Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney is excited by Marcus Rashford’s burgeoning talent but insists it’s important to give the young striker time to fulfil his potential.
“It is time for him to acknowledge that he simply can’t keep doing both – and I mean that for his own good”.
The teenager’s lively cameo was his first league outing under Mourinho, and the Portuguese coach was impressed with the forward after his bold play had previously helped turn the tide in the Community Shield victory over Leicester City on August 7.
Rashford, who burst onto the scene last season under previous boss Louis van Gaal, would have thanked elder statesman Rooney for his victor.
United manager Mourinho said: “I think, if he goes to the full squad, Sam [Allardyce, the manager] will put him on the bench”.
Wayne Rooney should retire from worldwide duty to focus on prolonging his Manchester United career, according to former England captain Alan Shearer.
“He can play (or) he can be on the bench”.
Mourinho, whose side is level with his former club Chelsea at the top of the table after three straight league wins, revealed Marouane Fellaini could be sidelined after suffering a back injury.
Nonetheless, Hull desperately need to sign new players before the end of the summer transfer window as their squad is painfully thin and Phelan has admitted that he will be looking to make a few additions to the KCOM Stadium in the coming days.
The Tigers vice-chairman Ehab Allam revealed in his programme notes that this could be the club’s last game with the Allam family as owners and he hoped a takeover deal with a Chinese consortium would be completed during the worldwide break.
“Credit to my players tonight, they performed heroically”.
Hull are expected to complete the signing of goalkeeper David Marshall from Cardiff next week after the Welsh club confirmed they had accepted a bid.
“We’re hoping bids will be accepted by a lot of clubs”, he said.
“I didn’t need wingers because at this moment the wingers were [Antonio] Valencia and Luke Shaw, so instead of wingers I needed people to play inside in that position and I know that he’s the guy with the vision for an assist and a feeling for the ball, and that he could perfectly be important, like he was”.
“We have to sit down, me and the owners, sometime”.
